Preface

Why rail?

Rail is one of the best options for long distance travel and precisely why so many countries around the world went through great effort to build out efficient networks.


From an economic perspective rail is the most effective way to transport large amounts of products on land. From an environmental perspective, it is the best at moving large numbers of people efficiently. A modern intercity rail network can give Canadians the freedom to choose how to travel, a choice that is bound to reduce traffic on our highways for those who would still prefer to drive.


High Frequency Rail (HFR) Vs. High Speed Rail (HSR)

High speed rail are trains that can go above 200 km/h. They're also known as, 'bullet trains'. They're great at covering great distances in very short amounts of time. Modern ones can easily reach 250 km/h.


High frequency rail are regular railways lines where trains can go up to 200 km/h. They sacrifice speed in exchange for frequency and capacity.


To achieve those mind-blowing speeds, HSRs can be very expensive to design, plan, build, and operate when compared to modern HFRs. Their fare tickets are also more expensive as a result.

Rail is so criminally underdeveloped in Canada that skipping straight ot HSR sounds wasteful to us. This is why we prioritize HFRs in our plan.
